Choosing a Bass Guitar

Our basses come from Fender, Squier, Yamaha and Ibanez. Every one is taken out of its box and set up by hand on our bench in Athens, Tennessee before it ships: fresh strings, action and neck relief, intonation, frets and hardware, tuned to pitch.

The Precision Bass is the standard: one split pickup, a full low end, and a sound that sits in any band. Short-scale basses such as the Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro have a shorter neck, which makes them easier for younger players and smaller hands.

A four-string bass is the place to start. Like an electric guitar, a bass needs its own amplifier.

Questions We Get

Is bass easier to learn than guitar?

Bass usually plays one note at a time, so the first songs come quickly. Playing it well takes as much work as any instrument.

What is a short-scale bass?

A bass with a shorter neck, around 28 to 30 inches. The frets are closer together, which suits younger players and smaller hands.

Do I need a bass amp?

Yes. A guitar amp is not built for low frequencies. Use an amplifier made for bass.

Do you set up basses before shipping?

Yes. Every bass is adjusted and tuned on our bench in Athens, Tennessee before it ships.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on every order within the United States, with no minimum.
