A Family Guitar Shop on North Jackson Street
We sell guitars, basses, banjos, mandolins and fiddles, teach lessons, and set up every instrument by hand before it leaves the building.
Picker's Friend is a family-owned guitar and string instrument shop at 121 N Jackson St in downtown Athens, Tennessee. We opened in December 2013.
What we do
We sell guitars, basses, banjos, mandolins, fiddles and ukuleles, along with the strings, capos, tuners, straps and cases that go with them. We teach one-on-one lessons in the shop. And we set up instruments, which is the part most online stores skip.
Why setup matters to us
A guitar that is hard to play gets put down. Most new instruments leave the factory adjusted to survive shipping, not to feel good under your fingers. So before anything leaves our building, it comes out of the box and goes on the bench: fresh strings, action and neck relief, intonation, frets and hardware, tuned to pitch.
Buying from us online
Shipping is free on every order in the United States. New instruments carry the manufacturer's warranty. If you are not sure what to buy, call us at (423) 462-1894 and talk to a person who plays.
Before It Ships
Every instrument is checked and set up on our bench by experienced hands, so it arrives ready to play.
