Buying an Acoustic Guitar Online

The honest worry with buying a guitar online is that it arrives hard to play. That is why ours go on the bench first. Every one is taken out of its box and set up by hand on our bench in Athens, Tennessee before it ships: fresh strings, action and neck relief, intonation, frets and hardware, tuned to pitch.

Our acoustic range runs from first guitars like the Yamaha FG800J and FS800J, through travel and 3/4 size models such as the Yamaha JR1 and Taylor GS Mini, to the Gibson J-45 Special and Hummingbird Special. Classical nylon-string guitars from Yamaha are here too, in full, 3/4 and 1/2 size.

If you are starting out, look for a solid top. It moves more freely than a laminate top and gives a fuller sound. A dreadnought is the loud, classic shape. A concert body is a little smaller and easier to hold.

Questions We Get

What is the best acoustic guitar for a beginner?

A solid-top guitar from a major maker that has been set up properly. The Yamaha FG800J dreadnought and FS800J concert are the models we point most beginners to.

What size acoustic guitar for a child?

A 3/4 size guitar such as the Yamaha JR1 fits most players from about 7 to 11. A 1/2 size classical suits younger children.

What is the difference between acoustic and acoustic-electric?

An acoustic-electric has a built-in pickup so it can plug into an amp or PA. Unplugged it plays like any acoustic guitar.

Do you set up acoustic guitars before shipping?

Yes. Every guitar is strung, adjusted and tuned on our bench in Athens, Tennessee before it ships.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on every order within the United States, with no minimum.
